Correction and Retraction Policy

JOSEIT is committed to maintaining the accuracy of the scholarly record. This policy follows the COPE Retraction Guidelines.

Types of Post-Publication Amendment

Correction (Corrigendum)
A small error that does not affect the article's underlying conclusions and is not associated with misconduct.
Expression of Concern
Issued when an investigation is ongoing and expected to take considerable time, or when the evidence available is inconclusive.
Retraction
The article is formally withdrawn because its findings or conclusions can no longer be relied upon.

Criteria for Retraction

The Editor-in-Chief will consider retraction when there is clear evidence that:

1The findings are unreliable due to error, fabrication, or falsification
2The publication constitutes plagiarism or unauthorized use of material
3The findings were previously published elsewhere without proper attribution (duplicate publication)
4Copyright infringement or other legal issues exist
5The research was conducted unethically, or the peer review process was compromised
6The authors failed to disclose a major conflict of interest
7Authorship cannot be verified, or there are serious unresolved concerns about accountability for the work

When Retraction Is Not Appropriate

Retraction is generally not used when:

The main findings remain reliable and a correction can sufficiently address the error
The evidence available is inconclusive (an Expression of Concern is issued instead while more information is sought)
The dispute is solely about authorship, with no doubt about the reliability of the findings
A conflict of interest is reported after publication but, in the editor's judgment, is unlikely to have influenced the conclusions

Retraction Process

1

Concern is raised or identified
Via post-publication discussion, an allegation, or internal review
2

Author(s) given the opportunity to respond
JOSEIT raises the concern with the author(s) before proceeding, except in rare cases of well-founded serious misconduct
3

Institution notified where warranted
The decision to correct or retract rests with JOSEIT and does not have to wait for an institutional finding
✓
Notice published
Published as soon as the Editor-in-Chief is confident the article meets the criteria above — delay is avoided to limit the impact of citing unreliable work

Retraction Notice Requirements

Linked to the retracted article and clearly labeled as a retraction
Published promptly and made freely accessible to all readers
States who is retracting the article and the reason(s), in clear and objective language
If retraction results from the actions of some, but not all, authors, the notice states this where possible
The original article is never removed from the journal. It remains accessible, with the retraction notice permanently linked to it, so the scholarly record stays transparent.
